Santorum endorses Romney

ABJ - May 14 - Nearly a month after suspending his own presidential campaign, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum has endorsed Mitt Romney, the former Governor of Massachusetts and inevitable Republican nominee.

Upon obtaining the Republican nomination, Romney will face off against U.S. President Barack Obama.

A smaller campaign, Santorum surprised many political pundits with his message and ability to attract evangelical, social conservative Republican support, which only grew through the primary season.

Leading up to the Pennsylvania primary, however, polls showed Santorum without solid support in his home state. Romney ultimately won Pennsylvania with 58 per cent of the vote, a commanding lead to Santorum’s 18.3 per cent.

Now, after hashing out the details with Romney, Santorum has cast his support to his one-time opponent.

Santorum said in a statement, “I felt that it was completely impossible for me to even consider an endorsement until after a meeting to discuss issues critical to those of us who often feel our voices are not heard by the establishment: social conservatives, tea party supporters, lower and middle income working families.”

Santorum went on to endorse Romney. “[The task] will require all hands on deck if our nominee is to be victorious Governor Romney will be that nominee and he has my endorsement and support to win this, the most critical election of our lifetime.”
