Candidates battle for Cain supporters
ABJ - December 6 - With the presidential run of restaurateur Herman Cain likely suspended indefinitely, the remaining major candidates will now fight for to coup his supporters.
Most political pundits expect Cain to endorse either former Speaker Newt Gingrich or former Governor of Massachusetts Mitt Romney. In the latest polling, conducted by The Washington Post, Gingrich has surged to the top of the chart, with a commanding 33 per cent of the vote. Following Gingrich, Romney and Texas Congressman Ron Paul are tied for second place, each holding 18 per cent of the voting interest.
The poll results also show Texas Governor Rick Perry placing third at 11 per cent, Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann at eight per cent, and former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum at seven per cent. Jon Huntsman, former Governor of Utah, holds two per cent of the voting interest.
Gingrich was in New York City yesterday, meeting with real estate mogul Donald Trump, who has recently pushed to moderate an upcoming debate of the Republican Party.
Gingrich said from New York, “If I do become the nominee, we’re going to compete in all 50 states. I don’t believe in a red vs. blue model. I believe that we’re 100 per cent Americans and I think that if the issue is food stamps vs. paychecks, then every state in the country will be in play, and I intend to run as the paycheck candidate. I am delighted to be here today.”
