Cain suspends presidential bid
ABJ - December 5 - Herman Cain, the former restaurant executive, has suspended his campaign for the Republican nomination to run against Barack Obama for President of the United States.
Cain, 65, faced several allegations of sexual harassment in recent weeks, with as many as four different women claiming sexual harassment or misconduct by Cain during his time as CEO of the National Restaurant Association during the 1990s. Another woman also accused Cain of adultery.
Claiming the allegations caused too much campaign distraction, damage, and family hurt, Cain suspended his presidential bid on December 3.
“Because of these false and unproved accusations, it has had a tremendous painful price on my family,” Cain said.
Cain’s support in the polls had taken a major decline in recent weeks after leading the pack the month previous, among other Republican frontrunners like former Governor of Massachusetts Mitt Romney, former Speaker Newt Gingrich, and Texas Congressman Ron Paul.
“There's a lot of garbage on the Internet. There's a lot of garbage out there on the TV. There's a lot of garbage out there about me, don't you know? There's a lot of misinformation out there. You have to stay informed and check out the facts for yourself,” Cain said.
